Port of Spain, February 18, 2022 – The Honourable Foster Cummings, Minister of Youth Development and National Service met with the Honourable Farley Chavez Augustine, Chief Secretary and Secretary for Finance, Trade and the Economy of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) today. The meeting took place at the Head Office of the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service (MYDNS) in St. Clair, Port of Spain.
Minister Cummings congratulated the Chief Secretary on his victory in the THA elections noting that, “As a young person, I know that all the young people of Tobago and Trinidad look at you as a beacon of hope. We wish you all the best and you have the full support of the MYDNS.”
The Chief Secretary thanked Minister Cummings for accepting the THA’s request to meet on matters of mutual interest, emphasising that “Your Ministry is a critical partner as we build out our various Co-operative and Youth initiatives. We are happy for this conversation and we wish to explore ways to collaborate and move this agenda forward.”
The meeting explored a number of matters pertaining to young people particularly National Service and Co-operatives in Tobago, with a focus on Credit Unions.
“We would like to be on the same page when it comes to these issues. I want to work side-by-side with the THA to build on what you have and share what we have,” Minister Cummings affirmed.
MYDNS representatives present at the meeting included Mr. Farook Hosein, Permanent Secretary; Mrs. Cherryl-Ann Solomon, Deputy Permanent Secretary; Ms. Gail Sooknarine, Advisor to the Honourable Minister and Ms Charmaine Mc Millan, Commissioner of Co-operatives.
The Chief Secretary was accompanied by Mrs. Dianne Baker-Henry, Administrator Division of Finance, Trade and the Economy; Mr. Anslem Richards, Chief Technical Advisor to the Division of Finance, Trade and the Economy and Ms. Audlyn Corbin, Co-operative Officer III.
The Ministry of Youth Development and National Service is committed to bringing stakeholders like the THA together to promote youth development and encouraging civic-minded citizens to contribute to National Service across Trinidad and Tobago.
