Youth in Business, the Entrepreneur Hub of Youth Week 2024

AUGUST 22, 2024

The Youth in Business Entrepreneurship Expo, part of Youth Week 2024 celebrations: for the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service, kicked off on Wednesday August 21st, at NAPA.  The Youth in Business Entrepreneurship Expo provided young and aspiring business owners with the opportunity to interact with various organisations that offer financial literacy, business development opportunities and digital solutions for businesses. This year 100 youth participants received free business registration to accelerate their business journey. The budding youth businessmen and women received sound business advice from a cadre of experienced business professionals.

The Honourable Foster Cummings, Minister of Youth Development and National Service, congratulated Ms. Maya Kirti Nanan, the recipient of the Commonwealth Young Person of the Year 2023 award, for her work through her foundation for persons with autism. Addressing Ms. Nanan’s concern that there is a disparity in the locations of MYDNS programmes, Minister Cummings proclaimed, “Youth Week celebrations will be held in south and central Trinidad”.

Minister Cummings stated, “The government of Trinidad and Tobago is committed to making sure that we do all that is necessary to support our young people: their passions and dreams”. He further emphasized, “Today is a clear example of some of the work being done to support you and there is further evidence in the various programmes that we offer”. Minister continued, “We have rolled out a suite of programs covering every sector in the industries across Trinidad and Tobago”. Minister Cummings advised, “Business requires discipline and the right attitude: I congratulate you for being brave and taking a step in the right direction”. He further stated, “We are here to support you and NEDCO and MYDNS will assist you in acquiring your business plan.”.

Calvin Maurice, CEO OF NEDCO stated, “Youth in business is real, NEDCO and MYDNS are committed to making it real for the youths”. Mr. Maurice urged the youths to take advantage of NEDCO’s entrepreneurial grant offered as it is an important avenue to offset their business ventures.

The Ministry of Youth Development and National Service remains committed to bringing all stakeholders together to promote youth development and encourages civic-minded citizens to contribute to the National Service of Trinidad and Tobago.
