MYDNS Pays Tribute to CCC Region Coordinator, Stuart Charles

Port of Spain, 28 January, 2021: Minister of Youth Development and National Service, the Honourable Foster Cummings, extends deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Stuart Charles, Central Regional Coordinator – of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), who succumbed to injuries sustained, at the CCC’s Central Regional compound. His unexpected passing has plunged the CCC, and by extension the Ministry, into mourning.

Mr. Charles and his team comprising Logistic Officer Frederick Dennie, Team Commander Bevon Hercules and Assistant Team Commander Shane Sonnylal, were conducting repairs to a flag pole at the CCC’s Central Regional Compound, when the pole came into contact with high tension wires, causing them to be electrocuted. Mr. Hercules and Mr. Sonnylal, although injured, are currently in stable condition, while Mr. Dennie, who received extensive burns about his body, has been taken to the Mt Hope Medical Science Complex for treatment.

Mr. Charles, who retired from the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force in 2014 as a Warrant Officer – Clerk I, subsequently joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the position of Team Commander. Successively, he was promoted to Detachment Commander and in 2021, promoted to the position of Regional Coordinator for the Central Region.
Minister Cummings acknowledges the contributions of Mr. Charles to the holistic development of our nation’s youth, through his commitment and dedication to improving the lives of the youth in the Central Region.

Minister Cummings stated ‘Mr. Charles’ sudden passing is truly a shock to the entire MYDNS family. He was indeed a true patriot and his passion and enthusiasm for youth development would surely be remembered. On behalf of the Ministry of Youth Development
and National Service, I extend sincerest condolences to his family and friends at this time. May he rest in peace.”
