FUSE FAQ

  1. What is FUSE

FUSE is a programme designed to provide young persons from the ages 18-35 years, with technical/vocational skills-training in overhead line construction and maintenance industry; thus equipping them with the requisite skills and competencies to obtain gainful employment in the electricity and telecommunication sector as a means of development.

Overall, this programme will better equip young persons with the necessary skills, expertise and knowledge to become certified and competent operators and practioners, thereby allowing them to use the skills acquired to boost their employability status, as well as, contribute meaningfully to sustainable national development.

  • Who can apply to the FUSE programme?

Trinidad and Tobago nationals from the ages 18 to 35 years

  • What are the requirements for the programme?

The requirements for the programme are as follows:

  • Persons must be from 18 and 35 years
  • Persons must be citizens of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Persons must provide a letter of recommendation
  • Persons must possess a minimum of (2) CXC/CSEC Passes

Please note;

To mitigate the risk of injury, participants will be required to undergo a Pre-screening Exercise to assess their suitability to undertake this training. The Pre-screening Exercise comprise the following:

  1. Climbing exercise where participants would be required to safely ascend and descend a ladder to a height of approximately six (6) metres.
  2. Lifting exercise where participants would be required to lift an object approximately 18 kg and carry it approximately 12 metres.
  • How much does the programme cost?

There is no cost to applicants.

  • What are the benefits to FUSE?

Upon successful completion, trainees will be assessed and receive a Certificate of Completion from the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC).

  • Where is the programme facilitated?

The Classes/Training component of the programme will be conducted at the following facilities:

  • Introductory Linesman Training Option – T&TEC’s El Socorro Training Facility, Cyrus Trace, El Socorro.
  • Introductory Line Clearer Training – California Youth Development Centre, #22 Hilton Mitchell Street, California, Couva      
  • Who provides the training?

The providers for Introductory Linesman and Line Clearer Training is the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC)

  • How do I apply?

Persons can apply by visiting the MYDNS website-  https://www.mydns.gov.tt

When applying the following documents must be submitted:

  • A copy of your electronic Birth Certificate
  • A copy of your National Identification Card or Driver’s Permit
  • Academic Certificates (if available)
  • Banking Information (Bank Statement with the name and account number) (Optional)
  • Letter of recommendation from an approved recommender (see list below)
  • How long is the programme?

The FUSE programme is twelve (12) weeks in duration.               

  1.  Is there a stipend attached?

The stipend is valued at $106.00/day (based on attendance and participation).

  1.  When is the Programme Scheduled to begin?

The Introductory Linesman Training Option is scheduled to being in July 2024

The Introductory Line Clearer Training is scheduled to begin in September 2024.

  1.  Is the programme full time or part time?

This is a full – time programme only

The training will be conducted Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm

(not public holidays)

  1.  Who is an appropriate recommender?

The Recommender must not be an immediate relative of the applicant. The following categories of persons are eligible to be Recommenders:

  • Ministers of Religion registered under the law to perform marriages.
  • Managing Directors, Directors, and Managers of Banks and companies.
  • Members of Parliament, Mayors/Chairmen/Councillors/Aldermen of Cities, Boroughs and Regional Corporations.
  • Notaries Public or Justices of the Peace or Commissioners of Affidavits.
  • Senior Public Servants (Range 35 and above).
  • Police Officers (Corporal and above rank) (include Regimental Number).
  • Fire Sub-Station Officers and above rank (include Regimental Number). Prison Officers II and above rank (include Regimental Number).
  • Members of the Defence Force (Corporal/Leading Seaman and above rank)
  • School Principals, Vice-Principals, Lecturers, Graduate Teachers (Teacher I and above)

Note – These letters of recommendation must verify that the applicant is either employed, self-employed (state the profession) or unemployed.
