As we celebrate the 100th International Day of Cooperatives under the theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World”, I take this opportunity to remind you of the important role Co-operatives play in reducing inequality, creating shared prosperity and responding to the challenges Trinidad and Tobago and the rest of the World have been made to navigate, due to challenges brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In fact, operating all around the world in many different sectors of the economy, co-operatives have shown their resilience to the crises by encouraging economic participation, contributing to food security, and improving their members’ welfare. This enables their members to strengthen their communities, as they are in tune to the local needs where they can position themselves to better encourage socio-economic growth.
To my fellow Co-operatives:
Happy 100th International Co-operative Day, 2022 and best Co-operative wishes to all.
Ms. Charmaine Mc Millan
Acting Commissioner for Co-operative Development
