The Ministry of Youth Development and National Service, recognizes the need across all age groups and sectors, for shared responsibility, common values and positive experiences, as well as improvement within communities. As such the Ministry creates opportunities for youth activists, non-profit organizations, youth-led and youth-serving organizations, as well as the national community to contribute to the National Service platform/agenda for Trinidad and Tobago.
The Ministry envisages that National Service will allow citizens to connect with social issues, come together to accomplish common goals, help individuals develop different skills and increase volunteerism, which will ultimately address the unrealized social, educational and environmental needs of communities across Trinidad and Tobago.
The approach to National Service will be:
1. YOUTH-CENTERED
To empower young people to take part in the decision-making process; to improve the confidence and capacity of young people and adults to contribute to the process and to partner with Youth Groups and Youth activists for support.
2. SKILLS-BASED
To seek the positive attributes of young people and employ them in the development of National Service.
3. INTER-AGENCY
To assist in developing and implementing national policies and programmes.
4. STAKEHOLDER RELATED
To engage the relevant stakeholders to achieve our Objectives
5. ALL EMBRACING
To engage, as wide as possible, institutions and communities, along with the expanded youth population (10-35 years) across Trinidad and Tobago.
