On Monday, December 19, 2022, the Honourable Foster Cummings, Minister of Youth Development and National Service attended a Stakeholders’ Meeting by the Co-operative Development Division (CDD) where over 40 representatives from the Credit Union Sector were present.
In his address, Minister Cummings referred to the co-operative sector as “a significant player in Trinidad and Tobago’s economic space”. In this regard, Minister Cummings assured stakeholders present that, “the MYDNS is determined to make sure we do all that we can to modernize the sector and bring the sort of improvements many of you have been long awaiting”.
Also addressing the stakeholders was Deborah-Ann Scott, Commissioner for Co-operative Development (Ag) who encouraged stakeholders to, “use these opportunities, which we intend to have on a quarterly basis to give us feedback on your expectations and to work with us to fulfil our goal for a successful co-operative movement”. This meeting was the first in the planned series “Meet the Movement Tour” aimed at engaging stakeholders on current issues affecting the Co-operative Movement.
The CDD regulates and supervises Co-operatives in Trinidad and Tobago and strives to create an enabling environment in which Co-operatives can contribute towards the socio-economic development of the lives of its members.
The Ministry of Youth Development and National Service (MYDNS) remains committed to bringing all stakeholders together to promote youth development and encourages civic-minded citizens to contribute to national service across Trinidad and Tobago.
