National Service Programme Gets a Boost with Advisory Committee

“Government has recently approved the establishment of a National Service Complex to accommodate young people at Beach Camp in Palo Seco. This facility will be a residential one to equipped with a basketball court, swimming pool, recreation ground and more,” announced the Honourable Foster Cummings, Minister of Youth Development and National Service as he delivered the Feature Address at the Appointment Ceremony for the Advisory Committee for the National Service Programme on Monday 1st November, 2021 at the Government Plaza, Port of Spain.

“The National Service Programme will follow a voluntary construct. I am confident that this Advisory Committee will develop a programme that is attractive to young people,” added Minster Cummings.

Also speaking at the Appointment Ceremony was Dr. the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Minister of Education, who affirmed that “The Ministry of Education supports students from nursery to tertiary; while the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service addresses the needs of young people between 10 and 35 years. Today, I stand joined in service and commit my full support to this project and working to develop young people as ideal citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.”

The Honourable Symon de Nobriga, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister – Communications also commended the National Service thrust of the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service (MYDNS), stating “This project will take our country further by investing in the young people in Trinidad and Tobago in all spheres. I look forward to seeing the success of this Advisory Committee and what it will produce.”

Minister Cummings then distributed the letters of appointment at the Ceremony. The members of the Advisory Committee for the National Service Programme will be responsible for establishing a culturally-relevant programme in Trinidad and Tobago and consists of:
